The Cranmer Group

A very warm welcome to the Cranmer Group of Parishes – Aslockton, Hawksworth, Orston, Scarrington, Thoroton and Whatton!

What’s On When and Where

A summary of the main things that are currently happening in the Benefice is here in one place, with all the information you need to join in.

‘Thy Kingdom Come’

Between Ascension Day and Pentecost, churches across the globe unite in a particular time of prayer, ‘Thy Kingdom Come’, in which we especially seek the Lord’s presence, and come together in prayer for God’s world, our communities and those whom He has especially placed on our hearts.

We have three gatherings at which I would love you to join us:

On Wednesday 8th May, the eve of Ascension Day, do come to praise God for all He has done in our lives, at our third Abide informal worship night:

On Thursday 9th May, we share in bread and wine: there is a special Ascension Day Service of Holy Communion at Hawksworth at 10am.

And on Sunday 12th May (NB a week later than usual, NOT Sunday 5th May, and not online), we gather in St. Thomas Aslockton for a special ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ First Things Prayer, from 7.30-8.30pm: join with us as we go deeper with God in prayer.

Woodwind Concert, St. Mary’s Orston, Sunday 19th May

Do join us for what promises to be a great concert in aid of church funds from an excellent local ensemble, Nottingham Wind Chamber Concert, in St. Mary’s Church, Orston, at 3pm on Sunday 19th May:

You can purchase tickets online using the QR code via your mobile phone camera – it’ll take you to the ticket sales webpage – or after our Sunday services, or direct from Jules Humpheson (juleshum@gmail.com).

Our Regular Service Pattern – do join us to worship:

Ash Wednesday and Len

Sermon Recordings

Our Sunday sermons are normally recorded, so that you can catch up with them whenever you wish, if you miss a service, or would like to listen to them again. Click here to access them all – they are uploaded a short time after each week’s service.

Our Children and Families Ministry

Our toddler and baby group runs on the first, third and fifth Thursdays of the month (in term-time) in the Thomas Cranmer Centre, Aslockton, 10.00-11.30am. Come and have fun with us!

Here’s our 2024 spring-into-summer schedule…

‘First Things’ Prayer

On the first Sunday evening of each month, we meet alternately online, or in person, to pray in an informal style. Do join us as we listen to God, and intercede to Him for whatever is on our hearts.

Our next meeting is on Sunday 12th May (please note that this is a week later in the month than usual), from 7.30-8.30pm, in St. Thomas’ Church, Aslockton. We look forward to seeing you then!

Online Morning Prayer

To join us for Morning Prayer on Zoom, on Wednesdays and Fridays 9.00 – 9.45AM, click here (meeting ID: 871 4296 0181; passcode: 363519). Please note that there will be no Morning Prayer on either Wednesday 3rd or Friday 5th April; we will be back on Wednesday 10th April.

May “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-25).

Do please contact me (details below) if there is any way in which I or our church family can help you, in practical ways, or in prayer.

May you know God’s comfort and joy in your hearts.

With every blessing,

Welcome…

We are the Cranmer Group of parishes formed in 1967 embracing the villages of Aslockton, Hawksworth, Orston, Scarrington, Thoroton and Whatton. We are proud of our connection to Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury at the time of Henry VIII. Cranmer was born in Aslockton and worshipped in Whatton church.

Mission

The Cranmer Group, as part of The Church of England, aims to be an authentic and accessible Christian community that faithfully worships and serves God.

We believe that God’s love leads Him to make Himself known through His Son, Jesus Christ, whose story is told in the Bible.

It is our joy to help people know Jesus as Lord and Saviour and we wish lovingly to support, nurture and encourage belief.

As disciples of Jesus, we strive to be faithful to God’s Word. We recognise that the Good News is life-changing, and this begins with us.

As we reach out through service in our communities, we seek to respond with gratitude to all that God has done for us in Jesus by living lives that match the words that we speak.
